This past weekend, Abbotsford Hospice & Grief Support Society became the setting for a truly heartfelt celebration.
A resident of Holmberg House hospice expressed to us her wishes to be present for her daughter’s wedding day. With the support of loved ones and our dedicated AHGSS team, that wish turned into a beautiful reality.
The intimate ceremony brought together close friends and family, creating a day filled with love and unforgettable memories.
A Meaningful Celebration in a Special Place
Hosting a wedding in a hospice setting is not common, but it highlights the importance of celebrating life’s milestones, no matter the circumstances. This event was a reminder that love and connection can shine brightest during challenging times.
The ceremony was intimate, allowing everyone present to share in the deep emotions and joy of the moment.
The mother’s wish to witness her daughter’s special day was the driving force behind the event. Our team worked closely with the family to ensure every detail was handled with care and respect. The goal was to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere where love could take center stage.
Music played a significant role in setting the tone for the ceremony. Cheryl, our amazing front desk receptionist and programs coordinator, performed on the piano. Her playing added a peaceful and heartfelt atmosphere that resonated with everyone present.
The choice of live piano music brought a personal touch to the event, making it feel even more intimate and special. It reminded everyone of the power of music to connect people and express emotions when words fall short.

Starbucks coffee was brought in to offer warmth and a familiar comfort to guests.
A charcuterie board from Neet’s Treats provided a delicious and elegant selection of snacks.
Tracey Cakes generously donated a stunning wedding cake, adding a sweet highlight to the celebration.
Confetti Floral supplied beautiful flower bouquets, brightening the space with fresh flowers.
