Tea, Memories, and China Cups: A Family’s Heartfelt Gift

We are deeply touched by a recent gesture from a family whose loved one was cared for at the Palliative Complex Care Unit (PCCU).

In memory of their beloved sister, two sisters graciously donated their fine china teacups to be used during our Tuesday and Thursday tea times - a tradition that brought warmth and comfort during their time in the hospital.

They shared that teatime had been a cherished moment of peace for their sister - a small but meaningful light in an otherwise difficult journey. For the family, the moments of sharing tea together offered not only comfort, but a sense of home. The familiar feel of fine china and the quiet companionship of tea became a way to connect, reflect, and simply be together.

Along with the beautiful teacups, they thoughtfully included a selection of teas and a heartfelt card expressing their gratitude to AHGSS volunteers. Their words were a touching reminder of the impact these small acts of kindness can have during life’s most tender moments.

We are honoured to carry on their sister’s memory through this special tradition and extend our deepest thanks for their generosity and trust.

A Dream Fulfilled: Beloved "Fin" Mascot Visits Hospice Fan

At Abbotsford Hospice & Grief Support Society, we are deeply committed to creating moments that truly matter, especially those that bring comfort, joy, and connection to the individuals and families we serve.

This summer, we had the honour of witnessing one such unforgettable moment at Holmberg House hospice. A cherished resident, an avid Vancouver Canucks fan, was surprised with a personal visit from none other than Fin, the team’s beloved mascot. The pure joy on her face was nothing short of magical as she exclaimed, “It was a lifelong dream to meet him.”

Her daughter, visibly moved, shared in the delight of this heartfelt experience.

It was a privilege to be part of such a meaningful surprise - a powerful reminder that even the smallest gestures can leave a lasting impact. Moments like these are at the heart of what we do, and we are so grateful to share them with our community.
