CLIENT SUPPORT TRAINING (BEREAVEMENT AND PALLIATIVE)
For those volunteers interested in palliative and bereavement care as it relates to one on one support for clients. 30-hour
certificate course. Cost: $150 – includes membership in the Abbotsford Hospice Society. Pre-requisite: Completion of Introduction
and Orientation training.
Course objectives:
Describe and practise the role of companioning palliative or bereaved clients
Practise and reflect on effective communication skills in end of life care
Describe the dying process and the Hospice Palliative Care Philosophy
Explain the effects of terminal illness on a family unit
Discuss Grief as a Process
Class Schedule:
Mondays 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Saturdays 9:00 am to 4:30 pm

Workshops
Grief, Loss, and Change: An Opportunity for Transformation
This two day course is tailored for middle managers, leaders and HR consultants who are trying to shepherd
and facilitate positive change in their workplace. Participants will learn more effective ways to connect
with their staff in times of loss and grief. This course will combine experiential learning with lecture
materials and group process. Participants will receive workbooks and worksheets that they can continue to
use after the course. Participants are invited to bring case studies that they wish to process during the
course. Nominal fee applies.
